Expo MCP Server

Official remote Model Context Protocol server by Expo. Connects Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other AI agents to your Expo/React Native projects for context-aware assistance, real-time SDK knowledge, simulator interaction, and EAS workflow automation.

Overview

Expo MCP Server is the official remote-hosted Model Context Protocol server from Expo. It allows AI coding assistants (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, etc.) to deeply understand and interact with Expo and React Native projects.

Launched in late 2025 and continuously updated, it provides rich context including your exact SDK version, project configuration, running development server, simulators, and EAS services — dramatically improving AI assistance accuracy.

Key Features

  • Always Up-to-Date SDK Knowledge: Real-time access to the latest Expo SDK documentation and best practices
  • Project Context Awareness: Reads app.json, dependencies, configuration, and project structure
  • Development Environment Integration: Connects to running dev servers, iOS/Android simulators, and React Native DevTools
  • Workflow Automation: Install packages, configure settings, trigger EAS Builds, and manage deployment pipelines
  • EAS Integration: Direct tools for builds, submissions, and workflows (added 2026)
  • Visual Verification: AI can inspect running apps on devices/simulators for layout and behavior issues
  • Remote & Secure: Hosted at https://mcp.expo.dev/mcp with OAuth authentication

Requirements

  • An active EAS paid plan (Starter, Production, or Enterprise)
  • Expo account with linked projects

How It Works

  1. Add the Expo MCP Server to your AI assistant
  2. Authenticate via OAuth through the Expo dashboard
  3. Start prompting with full project awareness, e.g.:
    • "Update my notifications to use the latest Expo SDK pattern"
    • "Debug why this component crashes on iOS simulator"
    • "Create and trigger a production EAS build"

Supported Tools

  • Claude Code / Claude Desktop
  • Cursor
  • VS Code (MCP support)
  • Windsurf and other MCP-compatible clients
